A self-satirical train wreck that you can witness word by word...

And for those who doubt my son Armand Bovoso, indeed he is part Black. I'm Black and Italian. Armand is Black, italian, and Ukranian Jewish. Send me an email if you can't accept this.

The seminal centuriatic 100th post

So my fan(s) has threatened me with forgoing my site should I not post something soon. I guess I can't let my fan(s) down.

So this is post 100. One hundred posts about the surreal slow motion freeway pile up that has made up my existence. Here you have it folks. It started with Daffy Duck being proclaimed a genius and went all the way through to a frank discussion about a twisted white boy's take on white nipples. Hey, JB! Any time you can't hang with the white nipples I'll be glad to pinch hit for you.

Today I found out that I have a twin. I am a victim of separation at birth. Check out this IM I received from T.

yer face
i saw someone on a talk show that looked like you sort of.
cept he had big ass bling in his ears
and was crying a lot.
he was on montel
.

Just great. Now I have to call my mother and straighten this mess out. When I was 5 and living in France a group of gypsies offered to buy me. Maybe my parents were late on car payments and sold my brother instead.

White Nipples

I have a friend named JB who is quite a unique guy. Talented in many aspects but particularly skilled with the ladies. When I was his age I was given the title of "Mr. Be-gettin'-laid-in-here", while working at a popular San Francisco night club. I have now bequeathed my crown to JB. The women come out of the woodwork for him. However, there is something questionable in JB's approach. Until very recently he had never been with a white girl. JB is white himself!! How did this happen? Some people have Jungle Fever, JB has Jungle Cancer. Terminal Cancer at that. I happened to be around right his first white girl experience and here was his single quote from the event.

"Dude, white nipples seriously grossed me out at first..."

????

I responded with "Well you are the first man, white or black, to ever utter those words."

Fuck the Yams. JB deserves a blog all to his self.

Flirtations with Boy George

A few years ago I went mixed CD happy. It wasn't the first time this has happened but apparently I was particularly prolithic this year. Yesterday I discovered the cryptically entitled "Soul Mood", "Down Tempo Dojo", and finally "80s feel". It had been several years since I had listened to these mixes so I was particularly enjoying myself playing DJ on kitchen boom box as I scrubbed the stove top clean. Soul mood had all my essentials: Bill Withers, Angie Stone, Morcheeba, some Acid Jazz, etc. Great stuff. Down Tempo dojo was full of Hip-Hop Jazz, Trip Hop, Neo Soul. Yummy. Now to 80s feel. Quite enjoyable if you were of pop music listening age during the Reagan years. Der Kommisar, Howard Jones, Duran Duran, and many more top 40 hits. On track 8 I came across an old favorite: I Know You Miss Me by Culture Club. For those of you who missed the 80s, Culture Club was quite the phenomenon. The group was made of 3 musicians and fronted by androgynous drag queen Boy George. It may appear very dated now but let me tell you Culture Club's style was a defining factor in the 80s. By the time their second album had come out in 1983 my 14 year old self had a realization. I had a crush on Boy George. He had a sultry voice and legendary sense of fashion. Thanks to what I now realize must have been an incredible amount of air brushing and lense filters, he kept getting better looking.

Now to qualify all of this, I didn't have any sexual fantasies about Boy George. There was just something about his stage presence that I found intriguingly... appealing. I remember at the time being confused about my new feelings but at that age this was nothing unusual. I was also raised open minded enough that I didn't put much thought into it. Even back then I was somewhat aware of the dangers of putting a stringent lock on one's sexuality. Straight or not, Boy George had it going on at that time. Of course this all ended once he became a heroin addict and got a little creepy.

Media and the Hurricane

I'm far too upset to post anything about the Louisiana devastation. However this link (brought to my attention by my good friend KS) does spark an age old argument about the handling of imaging and wording by the media. The United States of America is a scary place.

Vegan Philosophy

In case you don't know what a vegan is let me give you the gastronomic hierarchy and where vegans fit into it.

Omnivores are looked down on by
Those who don't eat pork, who are looked down on by
Those who eat only chicken and fish, who are looked down on by
Those who eat only fish, who are looked down on by
Vegetarians, who are looked down by
Vegans (we don't eat eggs, dairy, honey, or any other animal related product) who are looked down on by
Raw food vegans (they are the creme of the disciplined)

Vegans are pretty high on the "food chain" when it comes to lifestyle eaters. My own personal vegan philosophy has evolved in its current incarnation. The core ideology remains the same however.

Health

For whatever reason vegan eating really agrees with me. I seem to have no problems maintaining my diet in a world of unhealthy and animal product ridden food. It just works for me. It allows me to avoid 99 percent of the junk I would normally pollute my body with. When I wasn't a vegan I had a very hard time controlling my weight. I also had high blood sugar, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. I now suffer from none of those things.

Environment

There are many blogs and web sites more articulate on the ramifications that the animal product industry leave on the environment. Here is a great article on vegan.com
http://www.vegansociety.com/html/environment/

Animals

The cruelty of the meat production industry in this culture is not to be believed. There are numerous books and sites devoted to this. Here is a good essay. http://www.goveg.com/vegkit/meet.asp

So there you have my trinity that keeps me on the vegan path. If any one of the components isn't there for me, the other two always step in. Feel free to have a chat with me anytime about it. Conversations on the subject can be in depth and fascinating.

My son got bullied...

This year I have two children starting the sixth grade. My oldest, Armand, already started this past June. In the Los Angeles Unified School District many school participate in what they call "year round school." They split the children in to different "tracks'. A, B, and C track. Armand was placed in C track. This meant that he went from elementary school to middle school in 2 weeks. Yuk.

Armand is the sweetest kid in the world. He's never bothered anyone and is only interested in having fun. While this may be a great quality in elementary school, in middle school it makes you a prime target for harassment. Kind of ironic that the son of a jujitsu instructor would have problems with bullies.

For some reason he's become a target of a small group of kids in his art class. To make a long story short, I visited he classroom today and will be volunteering for the teacher periodically starting Tuesday. That should end any problems he's having in class.

What's most interesting for me about this story is that it is almost identical to what happened to me in middle school. When I was in the 6th grade I met a 7th grader named Joseph Morrison. We became friends at one point but then during art class one day he suddenly turned on me. The torment went on for years. It got the point where I left school early and walked ten blocks out of my way just to avoid him. I was in a constant state of fear. To further the irony more Joseph Morrison was the person who first told me about jujitsu. I remember him saying, "The whole point of jujitsu is to disarm any weapon..." He was partly right. Furthermore, because of my experience with him, I began a desire to learn martial arts. If I were to meet Joseph today I would thank him for the direction he led me in.

Hopefully I have broken the cycle with my son. It's times like this that I am reminded about the philosophy of my teachings. "Full Circle is a philosophy of always coming back to ones beginnings with new knowledge learned on the circular path of life."
